The MediaPod® Player Layout (BASIC) View Demonstration
The MediaPod® Player offers viewers a multimedia presentation experience. The MediaPod® Player contains a selection of windows or panes that offer various levels of user interactivity and media presentation. These include a video player, similar to Real Player or Windows Media Player for viewing audio/visual events. The left pane of the MediaPod® contains a Table of Contents that outlines the chronology of the event. Additionally, there is a searchable scrolling transcript synchronized with the video and the slide window. Finally, the slide window displays a variety of materials, including web pages (HTML), Adobe Acrobat™ files (PDF), images files (GIF, JPEG), Word™ files (DOC), Excel™ files (XLS) and PowerPoint™ presentations (PPT).
Playing the Video
There are three ways to play the video. 1) click the green play button in the lower left corner of the control panel, 2) double click on any line of text in the transcript or 3) double click on any Table of Contents entry. Once you have clicked, the video will load and begin to play. The amount of time it takes for the video to begin and the quality of the video stream is a function of the speed of your Internet connection.
Navigating the MediaPod®
The MediaPod® Player combines four types of media that can be navigated: video, slides, Table of Contents and transcript. The slider bar, under the transcript, is a presentation timeline that allows users to fast forward or rewind the event. You can navigate the slides with the blue “previous” and “next slide” buttons located adjacent to the three video control buttons on the Control Panel. The transcript will automatically synchronize whenever you do this. You can also scroll through the Table of Contents to select a topic of interest. To choose a topic, simply double click on the item in the Table of Contents window. The slides and transcript will follow. Finally, you can navigate through the transcript using the adjacent slider bar or a text-based search by typing a word or phrase in the search box and hitting the Enter key or Find Text button. Additional hits can be located by clicking the Find Text button multiple times. When executing a search, the transcript moves directly to the first “hit” which is highlighted in yellow. Double click on a line of the transcript to play the video from any search point. Also within the transcript, click on any blue hyperlink in the text to display the referenced web page or associated document.
Synching and Unsynching the Event
Every time you navigate through the event, the video de-tethers from the other elements in the MediaPod®. The video and audio may continue to play while you skim other portions of the event. You can flip through the slides, scroll through the transcript or click on a hyperlink. When you want to resynch these elements to the video, just click on the “video synch” button. The video will synch up with the slides and transcript at the point where the video is playing. If you want to synch up to a new point in the transcript, double click on any line of the text.
